What we did

  • Install Obsidian (free, obsidian.md) and create a new vault — one folder of markdown files
  • Inside the vault create folders: Inbox, Daily, Projects, People, Resources, Maps, Templates
  • Create CLAUDE.md at the vault root describing the folder rules and how you want notes filed, linked, and summarized — this becomes Claude's operating manual
  • Install Claude Code (docs.claude.com), open a terminal, cd into the vault folder, run: claude
  • First prompt: 'Read CLAUDE.md, index every note, and write Maps/overview.md linking the major themes'
  • Prefer an app over a terminal? Claude Desktop → Settings → Extensions → Filesystem → add the vault folder — same result
  • Daily use: dump raw thoughts into Inbox, then ask Claude to file, link, and summarize them per CLAUDE.md
